Ryan Moon scored his first goal for Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday, netting it in the 77th minute against Golden Arrows. “That was a great feeling,” the striker commented afterwards, before adding: “I want to thank God and coach Steve Komphela for giving me this opportunity.”
The goal was a beauty. George Maluleka delivered the ball deep to Moon in Arrows’ box. The 20-year-old took the ball on the chest, turned and kicked the ball in goal.
“We are always talking about attacking the line and that’s what I did,” the striker reflected.
After the finish, Moon went on a sprint, celebrating the goal. “A million things went through my mind – to run, to dive on the grass, to take the jersey off, it was wonderful.”
The lanky striker had come on in the 73rd minute for Bernard Parker. It was the third time that coach Komphela used him as a substitute. He made his debut back in November against SuperSport United, coming on for Edmore Chirambadare in the 87th minute.
Moon joined Amakhosi this season from Maritzburg United and performed well when he was fielded in the MultiChoice Disk Challenge games.
Interestingly, Moon predicted before the match that he would find the back of the net, telling team manager Gerald Sibeko: “If given a chance to play, I will score.”
“I am a man of my word,” the striker reacted afterwards with a smile about his pre-match comments to the former Chiefs midfielder.
Moon’s goal brought Amakhosi 1-0 up, but Arrows equalised in the last second of the encounter. “That was a bit of hard luck. It was a heart-breaking moment when they scored.”
Coach Komphela was happy with the goal of the young striker: “To play in the Absa Premiership you have to be brave. To be able to play for Kaizer Chiefs you need to develop a crust beyond brave. I am very happy for Ryan.”
