Kaizer Chiefs’ reserves continued their unbeaten run when they played to a 1-1 draw against Lamontville Golden Arrows in their DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) fixture at Dobsonville stadium on Saturday.
Njabulo Hlongwane scored Amakhosi’s first goal in the second half and Arrows’ equaliser came in the last 15 minutes as they gained a point. The game takes Chiefs’ total to 41 from their 22 games. This currently keeps them in 4th place on the DDC log, nine points behind the leaders with eight rounds left to play.
Next Sunday they contest a crucial Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates, who lie one position, and four points, ahead of Chiefs. Coach Vela Khumalo and his charges will be highly motivated to take advantage of the opportunity to chase down their eternal rivals.
In the SAFA Gauteng Development League (GDL), Amakhosi entertained Randburg AFC at the Village in Naturena on Saturday.
The U-13s comfortably won their match 4-0, followed by a 2-2 draw between the U-15s. The U-17s disappointingly went down 1-3 and the U-19s also ended up with a 2-2 draw to complete the day’s programme.
Next weekend will see Amakhosi’s U-15 and U-17 compete in the Friendship Cup, hosted by Randburg Football Club on Saturday and Sunday.
