Amakhosi’s international heroes return to Naturena today with mixed fortunes after a busy period of 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying fixtures.
The two Njabulos, Blom and Ngcobo, made late but important cameo appearances as Bafana Bafana saw out a massive 1-0 win against the Black Stars of Ghana at Amakhosi’s FNB Stadium home ground.
The Chiefs duo were brought on by coach Hugo Broos in the 77th minute, with Blom involved in the build up to Bongokuhle Hlongwane’s vital late winner which propelled Bafana to the top of Group G standings on the road to Qatar 2022.
Blom became the 34th player to make his Bafana debut as a Chiefs player.
Khama Billiat featured in both FWC 2022 qualifiers for the Warriors, first in the tense goalless draw against Bafana in Harare and then in Zimbabwe’s 1-0 away defeat to Ethiopia.
Daniel Akpeyi was on the bench for Nigeria’s Super Eagles as Naija surged to a 2-0 home win against Liberia and a 2-1 away win at Cape Verde to top the standings in Group C as they look to qualify for their seventh FIFA World Cup.
Amakhosi’s players now gather back at the Naturena Village this week to prepare for the big DStv Premiership.away fixture against Mamelodi Sundowns on Sunday.
