Malope helped Thanda last season to win the First Division championship. “The celebrations after the title win were a once in a lifetime experience,” he reflects.
Now he wants to assist Amakhosi win trophies again. His role model? Former Glamour Boy, Reneilwe ‘Yeye’ Letsholonyane.
“I like the way Letsholonyane plays,” Malope explains. “He keeps it simple, which is the most difficult thing to do in soccer. Yeye is also a cool dude on and off the field. He’s a humble guy and I like that, because that’s how I am myself. It’s crucial to always show respect to other people.”
Malope comes from Chiefs’ development side and starred for Amakhosi’s MDC side during the 2015/2016 season, before getting loaned out to Moroka Swallows, which played at the time in the First Division, starting in ten matches and netting three times.
The youngster came on in the recent Carling Black Label Champion clash against Orlando Pirates. Coach Steve Komphela told Malope to just “relax and enjoy” the experience, just before he entered the pitch.
“I was nervous and excited at the same time,” the midfielder explains his feelings upon entering the field in the Soweto Derby. Malope did well, showcasing his talent in front of an enthusiastic crowd of about 90 000 at the FNB Stadium.
He nearly scored as well, but it wasn’t to be. “That’s how you learn,” he says about the missed chance. “I was back at training the following day to work hard and to do better next time when a goalscoring opportunity comes your way.”
Malope likes to crack a joke and is always ready to give other people advice. When not busy with a soccer ball, he likes to chill at home spending time with his family. He is an early sleeper.
The Benoni-born furthermore enjoys watching TV series, including Isibaya. He also like to game, usually FIFA 17 or Need for Speed.
His short-term goal is to become a regular starter for Chiefs’ first side. To achieve that, Malope plans to continue working hard on improving his game and to visit the gym to become physically stronger. He wants to eat healthier as well. “Accordingly, I want to help the team win silverware,” the midfielder concludes, “as that’s in the club’s DNA.”
