Kaizer Chiefs welcome SuperSport United in their first home league match this season. The encounter is billed to take place at FNB Stadium on Wednesday night (kick-off is at 19:30).
Komphela looked confident during Amakhosi’s pre-match training session on Tuesday afternoon.
“If you recall, last season we didn’t lose a single league game at home,” Komphela reflects on the 2016/2017 Absa Premiership. “It is now a matter of improving on that record by avoiding draws at home.”
Chiefs were edged by Matsatsantsa a fortnight ago in the MTN8 quarterfinal, mostly because the Glamour Boys failed to capitalise on the many chances they created.
“Cup games are a different ball game,” Komphela added. “I thought Lady Luck deserted us in that match. We showed professionalism though, to recover quickly from that upset. We showed character and collected a point on the road in Bloemfontein.”
SuperSport United will arrive at FNB Stadium after a 2-0 loss in their league opener against Mamelodi Sundowns.
“We are not reading too much from their previous results,” Komphela said. “We have a plan to deal with them on all fronts. In the main, we want to dominate them from the onset and go for an early goal, which should unsettle them.”
The Chiefs coach will wait on his medical team to advise on the availability of Itumeleng Khune, while stressing that Brilliant Khuzwayo proved himself equal to the task whenever Itu is unavailable.
While both sides are looking for their first win of the season, the fans are looking forward to a humdinger of a match.
Kaizer Chiefs and SuperSport United will do battle at FNB Stadium on Wednesday evening, 23 August (kick-off at 19:30).
Tickets for the game are sold at Computicket and Shoprite/Checkers outlets nationally at a cost of R40.
