Saturday, 8 September, Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium saw Goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune play a blinder in the game that saw South Africa play at home to a stalemate against a stubborn Libya. Ramahlwe Mphahlele thwarted several nervy moments as part of Bafana Bafana defense. Both Amakhosi rear guard completed the Group E match and remain equal on points with Libya who lead the standings by virtue of goal difference.
In Central Africa, on Sunday, 9 September, Kaizer Chiefs marksman Khama Billiat showed form when he scored to give Zimbabwe the lead in the 22nd minute only for Congo to equalize against the run of play in the second half of the Group G match. Billiat was replaced in the 85th minute of the match that played at Stade Alphonse Massemba-Débat in Brazzaville. Kaizer Chiefs defender Teenage Hadebe kept Congo in check for the back row of the Zimbabwe Squad. Zimbabwe maintains the Group G top spot on goal difference.
Moving to the South West of Africa , Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Virgil Vries was between the sticks at home for Namibia against Zambia. Vries almost kept a clean sheet until injury time when Zambia equalized through Justin Shonga’s deflected goal. The match ended 1-1 denying Namibia a chance to move from the bottom of the table joint with 1-point with Zambia in Group K.
In East Africa, Kaizer Chiefs’ new recruit Godfrey Walusimbi was part of the Ugandan team that was held to a goalless draw by Tanzania. The match was played on Saturday at the Mandela National Stadium in Kampala. Uganda top the Group L standings with four points from two matches.
