Amakhosi’s Reeve Frosler and Lebogang Manyama have been called up by South African national team coach Molefi Ntseki for a pair of friendly international games against Namibia and Zambia on 8 and 11 October, respectively.
Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Arthur Zwane and video analyst Mark Davy, meanwhile, will be part of Bafana Bafana’s technical team. There are furthermore national team call-ups for Khama Billiat (Zimbabwe) and Anthony Akumu Agay (Kenya).
Manyama, who has represented Bafana Bafana 17 times, last appeared for South Africa in a 2021/2022 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying game against Sudan in a 1-0 home win on 17 November 2019. Manyama’s call-up comes on the back of his stellar performances in the 2019/20 season for Chiefs, making 27 league appearances, scoring six goals and providing ten assists.
Joining Manyama in the national team ranks is defender/winger Reeve Frosler who, like Manyama, featured prominently for Chiefs last season, playing in 23 league games and contributing with three assists.
Frosler, who was given his international debut by former Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter in a friendly game against Angola on 21 March 2018, will be looking to add to his tally of caps for South Africa. Along with Manyama, Frosler will be looking to use the opportunity to stake a regular place in the national team to help Bafana Bafana’s push to qualify for the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Adding to Chiefs’ presence in the Bafana Bafana ranks will be Amakhosi assistant coach Zwane, who will be part of Ntseki’s backroom staff as one of his assistant coaches, as well as Chiefs video analyst Davy.
Davy has had a long association working with the South African national team set-up and travelled with the squad to the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
The Glamour Boya’ attacking midfield maestro Khama Billiat, who has 43 caps for Zimbabwe, will be hoping to turn out for the Warriors when they face Malawi in Blantyre in an international friendly on 11 October.
Anthony Akumu and his fellow Kenyan internationals will play two friendlies – on 9 October against a yet unnamed opponent (likely to be Sudan or Libya) and on 12 October against Zambia.
Former Bidvest Wits defender Sifiso Hlanti, who is currently training with Chiefs, has also been called up to the Bafana Bafana squad.
The South African national team will gather in Johannesburg on Sunday, 4 October, and will travel to Rustenburg two days later ahead of their first clash against Namibia’s Brave Warriors. The players should be back with their Amakhosi teammates on 12 October.
