Amakhosi midfielder Nkosingiphile “Mshini” Ngcobo has made his intentions clear as to what he wishes to extract from Chiefs next DStv Premiership game against Baroka at the FNB Stadium on Tuesday. The dynamic midfielder is looking to win three points from the game which would help Chiefs continue their recent upward trajectory in the league. It will also see them continue their recent good run of form which has seen Amakhosi win 10 points in their five league games since the turn of the year.

Ngcobo made his debut for Chiefs as a 19-year-old almost two years ago. He says was pleased with Chiefs’ performance in their last league encounter against Stellenbosch despite Amakhosi not being able to win the game which ended 0-0.

“The last game was tough,” comments Ngcobo, “Overall, I think we have been doing well together as a unit. We just need to keep going and get the maximum points out of every game.”

Ngcobo, who has just missed one of Chiefs league games this season, featuring in the other 12, has contributed with three goals and is happy to chip in with as many goals. “It is part of my job to get some goals and some assists, so I try to help out,” says the midfielder.

While Ngcobo has played down his own influence in Chiefs’ recent run where the team has gone four games without a loss in the league, which has included three wins, he does feel that the groundwork has been laid for Chiefs for the rest of the campaign.

“We are happy with how things have gone in the last two weeks,” adds Ngcobo. “It is something we can build on. And like I said, we need to try and get the full compliment of points out of every game.”

The 21-year-old is under no illusions that things will be challenging for Chiefs going forward as they have played six games since the start of the month and have two games still before January concludes.

With Baroka up next and then Pirates, Ngcobo is urging his teammates to take things one game at a time. “With so many games coming thick and fast, we have to be mentally strong and make sure we are well prepared for them. The next game against Baroka is our focus, and we know how important this game is for us,” he concludes.

Chiefs will host Baroka on Tuesday at 17:00 at FNB Stadium. The game will be live on DStv Channel 202.
