With the FIFA International break behind us, club football is back in full swing and Kaizer Chiefs are also back in action this evening as they host Stellenbosh FC in what will be an interesting DStv Premiership. The match takes place at FNB Stadium at 17:30. .
Amakhosi were in last in action two weeks ago when they visited Maritzburg United and beat the Team of Choice 3-2 in Pietermaritzburg in a league match. The visitors, Stellenbosch on the other hand hosted AmaZulu and won the game 2-0.
Both teams have enjoyed good form in recent times with Amakhosi having won their last four games, and Stellenbosch are on a serious resurgence with six victories and one draw in their last seven encounters.
The game will be very different when compared to the first round match that saw Amakhosi thump Stellenbosch 3-0 in Cape Town. The team from the Cape Winelands have turned the corner since the arrival of Iqraam Rayners from SuperSport United in January. The forward has scored five crucial goals in four matches for Stellies.
Chiefs are 4th with 37 points after 23 games on the DStv Premiership log and Stellenbosch are in position 8 with 30 points in the pocket after 23 encounters.
All Chiefs’ players who were on national duty rejoined their teammates on Thursday and most will start in this evening’s game after being assessed by the technical team.
Coach Arthur Zwane welcomes Siyabonga Ngezana back after the defender was suspended in the last match. Missing today’s match will be Yusuf Maart who was shown his fourth yellow card in the last match.
There will only be two changes in the team when compared with the starting team that did duty against Maritzburg United. Defender Zitha Kwinika will make way for Ngezana at the back and Samkelo Zwane will come on for the suspended Maart in the middle of the park.
Chiefs will still keep to their 4-5-1 formation this evening.
Brandon Petersen keeps his position as the goalkeeper.
S’fiso Hlanti will play on the left of Amakhosi’s defence, Edmilson Dove is at the centre of defence with Siyabonga Ngezana and Dillan Solomons playing on the right.
In midfield Chiefs will have Siyethemba Sithebe and the young Samkelo Zwane.
Mduduzi Shabalala will again play in front of the two midfielders and will be flanked by Ashley Du Preez on the left and Keagan Dolly on the right.
Christain Saile Basomboli leads the attack.
Dolly is the captain of the ship.
The referee for this tough encounter clash is Tshidiso Mkwanazi. He will be assisted by Kenny Mamegwa and Mervyn van Wyk. The fourth official is Joseph Makhubo.
The Glamour Boys and Stellies will kick off at 17:30 at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg. The DStv Premiership match will be live on SuperSport’s PSL Channel 202 on DStv and various SABC radio stations - with regular updates of the match on Twitter @KaizerChiefs.
