Nike and Kaizer Chiefs Spark Brilliance with the new 2016-17 home jersey
In keeping with what has become tradition at this time of the year, Kaizer Chiefs and Nike will signal the start of the new season with the launch of a new iconic jersey.
Kaizer Chiefs’ new Nike home kit with Dri-FIT technology pairs top Nike innovation with a design that honours the 15-year partnership between the club and global sport brand, and celebrates the extension of their contract.
The gold kit features a solid black stripe which runs down the sides of the jersey and shorts, with a half black stripe completing the back of the v-neck collar. The socks are gold with a distinctive black linear pattern on the calf.
Kaizer Chiefs’ Marketing Director, Jessica Motaung believes the new kit is a perfect way to usher in a new era for Amakhosi and is confident it will prove to be a hit with the multitude of fans.
“Following the changes at the club, we believe our new jersey represents the new generation and journey that we are embarking on as Kaizer Chiefs,” she says.
While this new kit serves to inspire the new generation of Kaizer Chiefs, it has also been created to give players the very latest Nike innovations in fabric construction, performance technology, moisture management and environmental sustainability.
Nike Dri-FIT Technology
Nike Dri-FIT Technology draws sweat away from the body to the exterior of the shirts and shorts, where it quickly evaporates. This allows for players to perform at their best by remaining cooler, drier and more comfortable.
The laser-cut ventilation holes and mesh panels in key areas of the kit are designed to improve performance by increasing air circulation to the players’ bodies and help regulate their temperatures.
The jersey is crafted using mesh fabric that makes up the full front and back panels of the shirt, increasing airflow and facilitating enhanced movement.
Commitment to Sustainability
Nike leverages sustainable innovation for its football kits through the use of recycled polyester, delivering unrivalled performance and lower environmental impact.
The kit’s shirt and shorts are constructed with recycled polyester fabric, which is made from recycled plastic bottles melted down to produce a fine year. Each kit is made using approximately 16 recycled plastic bottles. Since 2010, Nike has diverted more than three billion plastic bottles from landfills into recycled polyester, enough to cover about 5,200 football pitches.
“We would like to thank Nike for their contribution to our mutually beneficial partnership over the last 15 years, and are delighted to know that the relationship will continue into the future. We look forward to many more great years of great jerseys and memories,” concludes Motaung.
“Nike and our marketing team chose an exceptional jersey for us,” comments an excited Kgotso Moleko about the 2016-2017 jersey. “I wore the jersey for a photoshoot. It fits like a glove on the body. The jersey is quite similar to the ones used by France and Portugal at Euro 2016. I am convinced that we will do well this season thanks to this iconic jersey.”
The jersey goes on sale exclusively at Kaizer Chiefs retails stores at the Village in Naturena, Tramshed shopping centre in Pretoria and, for those outside of Gauteng, www.kcdigistore.com will be the place to order the jersey from Friday, the 22 July.
Other retail stores will have the jersey from the 25th of July across the country
The team will wear the jersey for the first time when they take on Orlando Pirates in the Carling Black Label Cup on Saturday, 30 July.
