In his answer to the reports in the Kenyan Newspapers and duplicated on a number of South African web sites Motaung said, “rumours linking us to Edwin Mkenya are untrue we have had no communication with such a player and no interest in him”.
The Chiefs team manager also confirmed, the fact that reports, which state that the player was on trial at Naturena during December 2006, are incorrect. “We also want to clarify the fact that Edwin Mkenya was not on trial with us in December and any link between the said player and Kaizer Chiefs is completely fabricated” concluded Motaung.
The report of Chiefs signing the Kenyan defender came as surprise to Amakhosi coach Ernst Middendorp, as the reports in the Kenyan press said that Mkenya had been a target of Ernst Middendorp for quite some time.
In response to the story in the Kenyan newspapers Ernst Middendorp added, “I really do not understand how it is possible that I could be interested in a player I know nothing about. At the moment we have five foreign players and there is no way that we could sign a sixth foreign player, as we would be unable to register him”.
Amakhosi team manager Bobby Motaung also confirmed on Wednesday morning that Chiefs, would not be releasing any of their players in the current transfer window as reported in a number of newspapers over the past week.
