After ten days of no competitive football action, Amakhosi travelled almost 400 kilometres to the North of the country to face Baroka FC at the Peter Mokaba out in Polokwane in their second league game of the year.
The two teams last met in the first round of the season in August at FNB Stadium and Amakhosi were 2-1 victors with Khama Billiat and Daniel Cardoso finding the back of the net. Denwin Farmer scored Baroka’s goal. Baroka will get into the game with the intention of avenging the first round defeat.
The team from Ga-Mphahlele are wounded after losing their match to Sekhukhune 4-0 last weekend, while Chiefs drew 0-0 against Cape Town City.
Baroka are rooted at the bottom of the log with 14 points after 19 outings. Chiefs on the other hand are in 5th position with 29 points in the bag after 17 matches.
Amakhosi welcome Nkosingiphile Ngcobo and Njababulo Ngcobo back into the team. Njabulo missed the first two games of the year while Nkosingiphile was out for the last game due to illness. The two Ngcobos will start on the bench. Chiefs will however not have Bernard Parker in today’s team after picking up an injury at training during the week.
Coach Stuart Baxter has decided to make two changes to the starting team with Ramahlwe Mphahlele making way for Kearyn Baccus and Samir Nurković taking Bernard Parker’s spot.
Amakhosi are delighted as they will for the first time turn out in a slightly changed jersey after announcing a deal with Toyota that will see the Japanese motor vehicle manufacturer’s name appear on the sleeve of the Gold & Black jersey.
Chiefs’ lineup will see Brandon Petersen in goal.
The back four will have Mulomowandau Mathoho and Austin Dube in the middle, Njabulo Blom on the right and Reeve Frosler on the left.
In midfield, Daniel Cardoso will join Phathutshedzo Ñange and Kearyn Baccus.
The attacking trio will see Keagan Dolly come from the right and Billiat on the left.
Nurković will be the main striker for the Glamour Boys.
Mathoho will wear the captain’s armband in Parker’s absence.
This evening’s referee is Philangenkosi Khumalo. His assistants are Buyisile Ngqambiyana and Thamaga Sebati. The fourth official will be Patrick Jaftha.
The DStv Premiership battle between the Phefeni Glamour Boys and Bakgaga ba Ga-Mphahlele will start at 19:30 at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane. No spectators will be allowed in the stadium. The game will be live on SuperSport’s PSL Channel 202 on DStv and carried by various SABC Radio stations, with regular updates of the match on Twitter @KaizerChiefs.
