“Losing last weekend was sad,” Ramahlwe Mphahlele reflected on the MTN8 quarterfinal. “We gave it everything and created numerous opportunities to score. However, instead, they scored the sole goal of the clash.
“It was a bit of a Déjà vu, because last season we lost with the same score to the same coach in the quarterfinal of the MTN8.
“We reviewed and analysed the SuperSport United game during the week. We know now what we need to do better. It’s no use to cry over spilt milk. It’s actually quite straightforward, we have to put the ball into the back of the net.”
Mphahlele showed excellent form during his first season as a Glamour Boy, being selected as the Players’ Player of the Season at Chiefs’ end of the season awards ceremony. He started in 29 league matches, scoring one goal and providing four assists for others to score.
About the upcoming Celtic match, the right-back said: “We can’t afford the same start as last season, when we lost to Bidvest Wits. The premiership starts on Sunday and we are going to fight for the championship, whatever it takes.”
Last season, Amakhosi played to a goalless draw at home against Bloemfontein, while winning the away game 2-0 with George Maluleka opening the score in the first half, after which Gustavo Páez extended the lead in the second half. It was the Venezuelan’s first league goal wearing the Gold and Black jersey.
Lucky Baloyi started in the first league fixture for Amakhosi. He joined Siwelele for this season.
“We can’t afford to lose,” Mphahlele concluded. “Winning is the only option!”
