Kaizer Chiefs will play their first DStv Premiership match of the year 2022 away from home when they take on Cape Town City in a clash staged at the Cape Town Stadium in the Mother City.
Both teams will want to bounce back after losing their first round Nedbank Cup matches on the weekend. Chiefs lost to TS Galaxy and City were knocked out by Royal AM.
Chiefs played their last league match on 22 December against Maritzburg United at FNB Stadium. The match ended 2-0 in favour of Amakhosi.
The hosts Cape Town City are 9th on the log with 22 points in the bag and Amakhosi are in 4th position with 28 points. Both teams have played 16 league matches.
The two teams meet for the first time this season as the game scheduled for 4 December did not take place due the massive Covid-19 outbreak that befell the Amakhosi,
As this is Amakhosi’s second competitive game in three days, coach Stuart Baxter has decided to make three changes to the team for this evening’s encounter.
At the back Siyabonga Ngezana will be replaced by Ramahlwe Mphahlele, Reeve Frosler comes on for Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya and Mulomowandau Mathoho is in for Nkosingiphile Ngcobo.
The other eight players keep their positions as Brandon Petersen plays his second game in a row after his great performance on Saturday.
From left to right Amakhosi will have Frosler, Austin Dube, Mathoho and Mphahlele on the right.
Daniel Cardoso will join Phathutshedzo Ñange and Njabulo Blom in the midfield.
The attack is unchanged with Keagan Dolly on the right and Bernard Parker on the left.
The two attackers will work with Khama Billiat who will be leading the attack.
Parker will wear the captain’s armband.
The match officials are referee Luxolo Badi, assisted by Elphas Sitole and Thamaga Sebati. The fourth official is Thabo Twayise.
The DStv Premiership clash between the Phefeni Glamour Boys and The Citizens will start at 19:30 at Cape Town Stadium in Green Point. No spectators will be allowed in the stadium. The game will be live on SuperSport’s PSL Channel 202 on DStv and carried by various SABC Radio stations, with regular updates of the match on Twitter @KaizerChiefs.
