Kaizer Chiefs host the Cape Town-based side in an Absa Premiership fixture at FNB Stadium on Wednesday evening. Kick-off is at 19:30.
The midfielder has been in excellent form in recent weeks, with maybe the exception of last Sunday’s Nedbank Cup clash against Tornado FC.
“It was a tough match,” Ekstein acknowledges, “my compliments to Tornado, they put up a good fight. I am happy though that we progressed to the next round.”
Amakhosi beat The Citizens 4-1 in Cape Town in September 2018. Chiefs’ goals were scored by Siyabonga Ngezana, Khama Billiat (brace) and Philani Zulu.
Ekstein entered the pitch in the 87th minute as a substitute, coming on for Billiat. Three minutes after coming on, ‘Pule’ provided the assist for Zulu to score Chiefs’ fourth goal.
Chiefs and City are evenly matched, with both sides having 27 points, although tonight’s visitors have one game in hand (18 versus 17). The Citizens are, thanks to a better goal difference, in fourth position, while the Glamour Boys occupy fifth spot, seven points behind log leaders Bidvest Wits.
About his good run of form, Ekstein comments. “Previously, I was positioned either on the right or left wing. Coach Ernst Middendorp, however, fields me at 10, in a more central offensive role. We presently play with two number 10s and that suits me perfectly. I feel happy in that position.”
Tickets for the Absa Premiership match between Chiefs and City are available at Computicket and Shoprite/Checkers at R40 per ticket.
