Kaizer Chiefs Executive Chairman, Dr. Kaizer Motaung paid moving tribute to ANC stalwart and former Minister in the Presidency, Essop Pahad, who passed away on 6 July at the age of 84.
A key participant in the liberation struggle and in post-apartheid South Africa, Pahad dedicated his life to the ideal of creating a just and equal society.
“It is with a deep sense of empathy that I extend heartfelt condolences to the family of Essop Pahad on the sad occasion of his passing today,” the Chairman said on Thursday.
Dr. Motaung, whose life path coincided chronologically with the liberation struggle and many of its characters, recognised Essop Pahad’s role in transforming the lives of millions of his compatriots, pointing out, “Essop Pahad was one of the true struggle heroes of South Africa and his contribution to the transformation of our country into a pillar of democracy can never be overstated. He dedicated his life to upholding the highest ethical principles and was committed to his family and community, and for those most human of qualities, he will forever be remembered with love and great appreciation.”
The Chairman concluded by acknowledging the feelings of those loved ones coming to terms with their tragic loss: “To the bereaved family, on behalf of the entire Kaizer Chiefs Family, I wish them comfort and strength during this time of mourning.
“May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
