“I am a God-fearing person,“ said Kambole upon his arrival at the Kaizer Chiefs Village. “I am a very humble person. I listen and take advice. I don’t judge people by their colour, creed or character. I am always open to new ideas.”
Hailing from a small Zambian town called Chingola, Kambole started playing soccer when he was very young. “I knew I had potential in football. Each time I played I scored many goals. And, spectators would tell me I can become great,” he recalls, “But my parents wanted me to follow education so I did not take football that seriously at the beginning because I was focused on my education.
“Later, at the age of about 13, I went to stay with my brother, Promise in Kitwe. He realised I loved soccer and began to monitor my performances. He bought me my first pair of boots and gave me a lot of encouragement. That was the first motivation for me. I started to increase my efforts playing for Mindolo Younsters FC, while I was still going to Mamamonti Basic School.
“After I established myself as a soccer player in Kitwe, I went with my brother to stay in Chililabombwe. When I was in Grade 10, I joined an academy called Malalo Sport and shortly after writing my Grade 12 final exam, I joined a Division 1 side called Konkola Mine Police. I played there for two years and we were promoted to Super Division. I ended up as the top goal scorer in the league with 18 goals,” he reflected.
Kambole credits much of his success to a moderate lifestyle. “I live a quiet life. It is rare to find me roaming the streets,” he says. “I have two friends who just like me are spiritual. We go to church together and spend lots of time at home sharing the gospel.”
His career took off when Super League side, Konkola Blades recognised his ability and made an approach to sign him. “I was happy to accept the offer as it was a valuable opportunity to play for a well-established team. I continued scoring regularly about six months into my stint, my performance for Blades in a league decider against Nkana FC, in which I scored the only goal of the match, attracted the attention of Zesco United. It was then that Zesco recruited me and I didn’t hesitate to join them. It was a big career move for me,” he added.
Now he is ready to take another significant step forward in his career by signing with one of Africa’s most famous clubs. “I used to follow Kaizer Chiefs a lot. I knew the type of football they play and I followed the history of the club online. It is a big club and full of ambitions. They are not mere participants; they play to win nothing less than trophies. Chiefs is expected to win titles. My ambitions match theirs.
“Personally, I am here to improve my game, to score more goals and work with my fellow teammates to win matches. Back home people are happy for me. Even Zesco fans are raving and happy about my move. That is humbling. God’s time is the best! There were rumours a year ago, but I was patient to move at the right time. This is the right time,” he concluded.
‘Lazi’ has signed a three-year contract to join Amakhosi beginning in the upcoming 2019/20 PSL season.
