Kaizer Chiefs defender, Edmilson Dove will not feel an iota of sentimentality when he travels with his teammates to the Mother City this week for a DStv Premiership clash against his former club, Cape Town City, at the Athlone stadium on Saturday.
The Mozambican international played five seasons for The Citizens before joining Amakhosi in August 2022, where he has become a mainstay in the team, as well as a crowd favourite.
“I spent five years there and I still have a lot of friends in Cape Town. I didn’t leave the club with any grudges and I still have good memories of my time there,” he tells www.kaizerchiefs.com before departure for the Cape, adding “but now it is a matter of professional business. I am going there with only one thing in mind, to get a positive result for Kaizer Chiefs. Yes, I once played for them in the past but it is all about honouring the jersey I am wearing now.”
Amakhosi face a busy time ahead, with three games scheduled over the next eight days. Following Saturday’s match, they host Stellenbosch on Tuesday evening before heading to Gqberha to play Chippa United on 6 April.
“We prepare for one game at a time,” Dove states, “Obviously, one can’t look ahead to a future game when there is one to play before that. We are only focused on Cape Town City now and when that is done, we’ll look at what’s next.”
The match kicks off at 15:30 at the Athlone stadium in Cape Town on Saturday, 30 March.
Tickets for this exciting encounter are on sale through TicketPro online at www.ticketpros.co.za or Spar and Boxer Supermarkets, PostNet, Shell and Sasol filling stations from R80 per ticket.
