“I am grateful,” Shabba remarked. “Credit goes to Kaizer Chiefs. This can't happen without the opportunity and the support from the club.”
Tshabalala’s brilliant goal against SuperSport United was voted as the best by the soccer fans. “It is humbling to be voted in by supporters because they make this game to be the beautiful game.”
Remarkably, Shabba had two nominations in the short list of the three best goals for the 2016/2017 season.
They were Tshabalala’s chip of goalkeeper Reyaad Pieterse for the first goal in the 2-2 draw against Matsatsantsa at Mbombela Stadium on 29 April‚ and the free-kick in Chiefs’ 3-1 win over Free State Stars at FNB Stadium, on 7 February.
Baroka FC goalkeeper Oscarine Masuluke’s wonderful bicycle kick from the edge of the area against Orlando Pirates was another. It earned an injury-time 1-1 draw at Peter Mokaba Stadium on 30 November.
Shabba's free-kick got the nod after which Amakhosi’s Player of the Season concluded: “I trust this award will inspire our team as we embark on a journey to get back to lifting trophies.”
