Coach Arthur Zwane reviewed the match as character building, “We started very well with a win,” said Zwane. “This could be attributed to starting the season with the core of the team from the last season. We have a handful of the players that left the team.”
Zwane counted a handful of exits for an assortment of reasons including Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya, Yusuf Bunting and Tristan Moses. “Ntiya-Ntiya is in the first team and Bunting is on loan at Highlands Park while Moses is now at Mamelodi Sundowns. The focus is on developing the players of the future,” said Zwane.
Reamohetswe Lekoatsa who came on as substitute broke the deadlock in the 78th minute to give Chiefs the lead. The goal came after Bruce Bvuma had saved a penalty. “Arrows are a tough nut to crack,” said Zwane. “They are not champs by fluke. They gave us a good game to measure our character going forward.”
“It was tougher due to the pitch conditions,” said Zwane. “The pitch was spongy due to rain and the other two prior matches. But, I am happy the lads responded well and showed hunger. We scored a goal and kept a clean sheet. That’s a good to start the season.”
Wiseman Meyiwa scooped the Man of the Match Award for his valiant work rate in the heart of the park for Amakhosi.
