In the corresponding fixtures last season against Stars Jimmy was on the field when Chiefs lost their first game of the 2005-2006 season, which was 4-2 of Chiefs by Stars at Olimpia Park in November 2005.
Rustenburg also proved to be the sight where Jimmy scored his first goal for The Amakhosi; it was not at Olimpia Park but across town at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace. When in the return league fixture last season he got onto the score sheet by knocking home Chiefs second goal of the game, early in the second half as Chiefs ran home 2-1 winners over Stars in April 2006 which happened to be The Amakhosi’s penultimate league game of the 2005 – 2006 season.
The Amakhosi number two is looking forward to Wednesday evenings clash with the PSL log leaders, he is confident that Chiefs have emerged from Saturday’s defeat against SuperSport stronger and more determined to win the title. Tau said “we have put the SuperSport game behind the only thing on our mind at the moment is the game against Silver Stars, for us there can be no negotiating the fact that we need to win this game at all costs”.
Jimmy does understand that winning against Stars will not be easy and he believes that Chiefs will be able to go head to head against Stars and emerge victorious. “Stars are not the top team in the league at the moment for nothing. I believe that they are deserving of their top spot and nothing should be taken away from them, we are expecting a tough game on Wednesday but I do feel that we have gotten over finding our feet in the new year and will be able to give a good account of ourselves,” added Jimmy.
Having already faced up to Silver Stars and the dangerous Heirapo Marumo in a Telkom Cup match back in November, where Chiefs were eliminated from the competition at the hands of Stars. Jimmy feels they are now better prepared to contain Stars as he said, “for me the important thing is to do my talking on the field of play, I know from experience that Marumo is a deadly finisher.
"As a defender I have always enjoyed playing against strikers who are on form and although the prospect of facing Marumo is an exciting one, it is important for us not to just concentrate on Marumo. Stars are the top team in the league not just because of one man, he is a key players but the task for us is to play better than them, and carry out the instructions given to us by the coach."
Jimmy does not find himself amongst the goals very often he did score against Stars last season, when asked whether he would like to repeat that feat against them on Wednesday he replied, “as a defender you know you not going to score many goals, so when they do come you remember them for a long time afterwards, if I am presented with an opportunity to score against Silver Stars I will try and make the most of it”.
A Chiefs team minus a number of first teams regulars will get the chance to prove that they are still very much in the title race, when they come face to face with Silver Stars on Wednesday evening. Jimmy Tau will be looking to form a defensive wall at the back and make life for the likes of Marumo and Edward Williams difficult. Chiefs clash with the PSL log leaders kick off at 19h30 on Wednesday evening in Rustenburg and will take place at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace.
