Jimmy Tau was unaware of the fact that he made his fiftieth appearance for The Amakhosi since joining Chiefs at the start of the 2005 – 2006 season, on Sunday during Chiefs' 1 – 0 win away from home against BidVest Wits.

Played out of position by coach Ernst Middendorp against The Clever Boys, Jimmy revelled in his role and carried out the duties and instructions given to him with deadly precision. The defender who played his first official game for Chiefs in August 2005, took time out on Tuesday to reflect on some of the memorable and not-so memorable moments of his half century of games for Chiefs.

KC.COM: Jimmy can you believe that you have been at Chiefs for such a long time already, that you have been able to rack up fifty games for the club already? It seems like just yesterday that you joined Chiefs; time has really flown by over the last season or so, hasn't it?


JT: Time really has sped by and I was completely unaware of the fact that I had played fifty games for Chiefs - in my mind I would have thought that I had turned out in a Chiefs jersey about twenty or thirty times perhaps. Anyhow I must thank kaizerchiefs.com for being on the ball and alerting me on this small but important step in my career.

KC.COM: Amongst the games that you have featured in, which one would rank amongst the most memorable?




JT: To me there can be none other than last season’s Soweto derby, which happened to be my first game for Chiefs against my old club Orlando Pirates. It was the game played on the 29th October 2005 and we won it by 2 – 0. The build up to the game was really tough for me and thankfully, with the help of my teammates, I got through it okay and felt that I played my part in helping the team win the game. We then completed the league double over Pirates in December and made it a hat trick of wins last season with our ABSA Cup triumph; all of those games will remain in my memory forever.

KC.COM: The least memorable of all?




JT: The league game against Sundowns a few weeks ago. The quicker we forget about that game the better. Sure there were lessons for us to learn out of that game, but really we need not think about that game much. We did not play to our own expectations and it was just one of those days when nothing seemed to work for us. Like I mentioned the less said the better.

KC.COM: In between all of that you managed to score your first goal for Chiefs in the penultimate game of last season against Silver Stars?




JT: Funny you mentioned that game, because as a defender I did not expect to score many goals so scoring in my first season for Chiefs was a notable achievement. The thing is that goal decided the game in our favour; we were trailing and just before halftime Patrick Mayo equalized for us, early in the second half the opportunity presented itself to me and thankfully I made the opportunity count in our favour.

KC.COM: Now that you have made it to the first fifty games, how long to go before you reach the hundred game mark?




JT: I am just grateful to the Almighty for having given me the chance to play for and being a player at a wonderful team like Kaizer Chiefs; - to have just made it to fifty games is a landmark achievement for me. Having gotten these fifty games under my belt it is now time to look to the next fifty and hopefully towards the end of next season I should be closing in on 100 games,
