“We are entering the last stage of the season,” Parker continues. “We can still finish in a respectable position on the log, but our full focus is now on the semi-final.
“It’s crucial that the attitude and energy levels of everybody involved are right. It’s our goal to go to the next round, which is the final.”
Chippa United might not be doing well in the league, presently being in 14th position, but they were good enough to beat Bidvest Wits on penalties in the previous Nedbank Cup round.
“We will play a side that fights for every ball and that is very aggressive,” Parker comments, “and you saw that in their game against Wits.”
‘Die Hond’, as the attacker is nicknamed, has been a regular in the starting line-up since coach Ernst Middendorp took over the coaching reigns.
“I am happy that the coach puts trust in me,” he says. “I am one of the senior players in the squad, which means that I have to be exemplary in working hard at training.
“I also want my positive energy to rub off on my teammates. When I play, I always put the team first in my performance. It is known that I have assisted with many attacking moves, but I have also contributed in the defensive part.”
Of course, Parker is one of the players in the Amakhosi squad who has played for Bafana Bafana, performed at a World Cup and has been with a top side overseas.
“I want to share what I have experienced and learnt over the years with the rest of the team.”
Chiefs will play Chippa on the road at Port Elizabeth’s Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday evening, 20 April (kick-off is at 20:15).
