Chiefs are on a thirteen-game unbeaten run in all competitions, league and Nedbank Cup.
Masilela and the team arrived yesterday afternoon in Nelspruit in supreme spirit. Amakhosi are in town to host their Absa Premiership fixture against Chippa United at Mbombela Stadium on Saturday evening (kick-off is at 18:00).
“The confidence is sky high in the camp,” confirms Masilela. “But the dressing room talk is clear - to remain humble and continue with the attitude of one game at a time.”
Masilela also reflected on his own performances. “I try to keep it simple, focusing on my defensive role. I prefer to be a team player. And, one thing about our team is that we love this game and we want to make our supporters happy.”
The left-back has been knocking on the door to score his first goal for Amakhosi, making good runs on the flank in recent months and coming a few times close to score.
“I practice a lot on finishing,” Masilela adds. “However, I'm not too worried about scoring. My role is to defend and to supply our strikers with the crosses or passes to score.”
Chiefs will tonight be without Bernard Parker, who is suspended. ‘Die Hond’ is Masilela's regular roommate. With a smile on his face, he comments: “We miss every player who didn’t make the squad to go the camp.
“We are a united bunch of players. Parker has been doing well, but in his absence we will have someone else who will be capable to do the job upfront. On the other hand, of course, we will miss his experience and intelligence.”
Statistics show that Amakhosi have the upper hand over the Chilli Boys with four wins in seven league matches played between the two sides since the 2012/13 season. The other matches saw Chippa twice upset Chiefs, while one match ended in a draw.
“Our supporters have come to our games in huge numbers and I am sure that they will be there again tonight and have the Mbombela Stadium buzzing,” Masilela concludes. “We really appreciate their support a lot.”
