- Lorenzo is called ‘Lorry’ at home, a shorter version of his first name.
- His father Manny Faria was a defender, who played for Orlando Pirates in 1987. Lorenzo never saw his dad play live, but has seen some footage of his dad playing. He was impressed. “He took no prisoners as a centre-back,” Gordinho comments about his father’s style of play.
- Manny Faria came to South Africa from Madeira, a Portuguese archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean, southwest of Portugal. Lorenzo’s mother was born in South Africa, but her grandmother originated from Lebanon. That’s why the young Glamour Boy attends the Maronite Catholic Church, although he also attends the Catholic Church, which is closer to his home.
- Lorenzo and his younger brother Anthony, who is at present with Bidvest Wits, used to play in the garden at the home of their grandfather. “We probably broke about four windows over the years,” he comments, while pointing out that Anthony broke the most.
- He joined Kaizer Chiefs’ youth development structures at the age of 15, arriving from Orlando Pirates. His friend Masalealo Seanego was at Amakhosi at the time, giving Lorenzo the contact number of Lucky Stylianou. The Glamour Boy legend worked at the time at Chiefs’ development. Stylianou saw his talent after a brief trial and Gordinho joined our youth development.
- While growing up, Lorenzo’s role model was Chelsea’s tough tackling defender, John Terry. “I liked the way he defended and played, while also being the captain of the team.”
- Lorenzo likes to keep up to date with current affairs, checking various websites for interesting things – especially sport or worldwide politics.
- The 23-year-old loves to read. A recent book that he loved reading was The Power of Now, written by Eckhart Tolle. “It’s a book about the mind and it’s about living in the present moment. When it comes to soccer this means that I must not dwell too much on the past. It’s about looking forward and to work hard on becoming a better player and individual.”
- He often listens to music, mostly rap. He recently attended a Pharell Williams concert at Johannesburg’s The Dome. Lorenzo’s favourite rapper is Notorious B.I.G.
- The Benoni-born defender is able to speak Zulu. “I learnt the language at primary school and became better while at the youth development.”
