Popular English rock band Kaiser Chiefs, who were originally named after Kaizer Chiefs Football Club by former Kaizer Chiefs and Leeds United South African International Lucas Radebe paid a visit to the team they were named after.

The band was inspired by Radebe, who in Leeds is adored by many and affectionately known as “The Chief”. This is all thanks to his roots deeply planted in Kaizer Chiefs and its values.

“You can tell that Lucas was brought up in a team of high standards and values” said Paul Bolton (Band Manager).

Fabian McCarthy formally introduced the players to the band, but since the band members are staunch supporters of the beautiful game the proper introductions were done on the field of play where the band took on a combination of the current and past Kaizer Chiefs players in a six (6) aside friendly match.

Line Ups:

Kaiser Chiefs Band: Paul Bolton (Goalkeeper), Ricky, Nick, Whitey, Simon and Peanut.

Kaizer Chiefs FC: Rainer Dinkelacker (Goalkeeper coach), Lucas Radebe, Muhsin Ertugral, Fabian McCarthy, Fani Madida and Shaun Bartlett.

The six (6) aside match:

The band opened the scoring through Ricky with an early goal that seemed to unease Muhsin’s side, as they started to play with more conviction.

Fani proved he still has the goal scoring abilities that he possessed during his days as a player at Chiefs when he pulled one back for the home side from a perfect cross laid by McCarthy.

The second half started with the scores at one (1) all, but the current highest goal scorer Fani, was eager to add to the tally of goals as he scored yet another goal. This time the defense splitting pass was from the Chiefs left footed Coach himself, Muhsin Ertugral.

Surprisingly the visitors leveled matters from a penalty spot when Radebe fouled Nick, who converted the penalty kick himself to beat the Chiefs Goalkeeper coach, Rainer Dinkelacker.

Fani was slowly finding his rhythm as he scored again to put the home team back in the lead, while his counterpart Lucas had numerous chances to register his name on the score sheet but shot way of target “I thought someone said away” was his excuse.

Radebe was not about to stop trying as he finally scored from a Bartlett cross, after Coach Ertugral and Assistant Coach Fani had a moment of magic with quick passes and skillful displays.

The match ended with the home side wining 4-2.
