“We want to go all the way in the tournament and win it,” said the Kaizer Chiefs coach. “You can see for yourself – watch the guys train, they really look energetic.”
The Amakhosi squad had just completed their pre-match training session at the match venue, Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Tuesday when Solinas pointed this out. “If you watched carefully, you saw an element of rebounding after this weekend’s loss.”
This is the first leg of the preliminary stage of the Confederation Cup. Kick-off for the match is 19:30.
“We have a strong squad to compete in any competition,” continued Solinas. “There’s a good vibe and energy in the team. Any coach would like to have this kind of response after a loss.”
About tonight’s game in Port Elizabeth, the coach added: “We want to take an advantage to the second leg. We found a clip to watch their game. We didn’t find much info about them, but that what we found is enough to plot a strategy to beat them.”
The match marks a welcome return after two years absence in continental football for Amakhosi who tasted the sweetness of winning the 2001 African Cup Winners’ Cup.
