Amakhosi goalkeeper Brandon Petersen has sent a rallying cry to his teammates and called on his teammates to put the disappointment of Nedbank Cup elimination behind them.

Petersen is urging the Chiefs players to lift their heads and find an immediate response when they travel to face Cape Town City in the DStv Premiership in the Mother City on Tuesday.

“There is a game on Tuesday. There is no time to sulk. We have to pick ourselves up, we have to fix things against Cape Town City, and go out and do what we do best,” said a defiant Petersen, ahead of his return to his home town.

With Cape Town City also having been eliminated from the Nedbank Cup over the weekend, Petersen is expecting a fiery fixture against a team he knows well.

“I have played against Cape Town City a few times. They enjoy keeping possession. We have prepared for their game plan. The guys are looking sharp and we are ready for them and looking forward to the game,” Petersen told www.kaizerchiefs.com.

Despite the disappointment of the narrow Nedbank Cup defeat against TS Galaxy, Petersen was happy to get the opportunity to play in a game in which he put in an assured performance.

“This was the third game I have been involved and my second full game. It was good to be back and playing. It was not the result we wanted but it felt good to be out there on the field. You want to be between the sticks, you don’t want to be on the sidelines and not playing. As a goalkeeper, chances don’t come often, but when they do you have to take it with both hands,” said Petersen.

The competition is intense in the Chiefs goal, with four top-class goalkeepers vying for a starting berth, but the 27 year old Petersen has not been slacking off and has been honing his craft on the training ground despite his lack of game time, itching for his chance to play.

“I have been working hard with the other goalkeepers and it was evident during the game. It felt good to be back. I am looking forward to the journey going forward,” said Petersen, as he hopes to again get the nod against the Citizens.

The game against Cape Town City sees Petersen return to the Mother City where his football career began and he will be looking to make it a happy homecoming and to return to Naturena with three points.

The game against Cape Town City will kick off at 19h30 on Tuesday as Chiefs play their first DStv Premiership game of 2022.
