“The level of focus is quite high in the camp,” says Komphela. “The second round is going to be tough for all the teams in the league and we need to work very hard if we want to do well.”
Most of the players who had long term injuries have recovered, with the exception of Tsepo Masilela who is still short of full fitness. Ramahlwe Mphahlele has rejoined the team and is back in full training after recovering from an injury that kept him out for a number of months.
“We also welcome Joseph Molangoane and Willard Katsande back after serving their suspensions during the last match. Their return gives us a nice selection headache against SuperSport,” says Komphela as he assesses his options ahead of the game against Matsatsantsa.
“We did not take any real break during the festive season. We continued working throughout, preparing for the second half of the season because we don’t have the luxury to rest. The team finished on a high and we have to continue on the same high when we take on United on Saturday evening.
“We worked hard on various aspects of the game and I am confident that we will deliver against United,” Komphela points out.
Amakhosi lost the corresponding league fixture by 2-1 at the FNB stadium back in August and would like to turn the result around.
“We need to be careful of some of their players because they have a number of tricky guys who will punish you if you let your guard down,” the coach notes, “but we had a meeting after our pre-match training and our lads looked sharp in training and sound determined to do well. We are looking forward to the game.”
