"We are ready to play. Everybody is good and looking forward," says Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter, just after Amakhosi had concluded their pre-match training session at the FNB Stadium on Friday afternoon.
Chiefs will be looking at advancing to the Nedbank Cup Last 16 at the expense of Edu Sports. The two teams meet in the Nedbank Cup Last 32 at the FNB Stadium on Saturday, 21 February, kick-off at 15:00.
Amakhosi reached the semifinals of last year’s Nedbank Cup, only to lose out on the chance to defend their crown after losing on penalties to eventual runners-up Bidvest Wits.
Chiefs are at present involved in the three competitions: Absa Premiership, CAF Champions League and the Nedbank Cup.
The Club goes into the game having suffered some indifferent form since the resumption of PSL football. "That's now in the past,” reacts Baxter with supreme confidence. “We are focused on the match tomorrow.”
Edu Sports have arguably overachieved just by reaching the Last 32 of the Nedbank Cup, having beaten African All Stars (a higher division team) in the previous preliminary round.
Baxter asserts: "We don't know anything about them and so we have to concentrate on our own game. We have to be professional."
Edu Sports are known by their nickname ‘The Immortals’. The club hails from Soshanguve, north of Pretoria, and plays in the Gauteng SAB Regional League.
"We will rotate more players this time to give the other players a run. The visitors will really want to do well. I'm sure our players will also want to do well," Baxter says, taking a look at his opponents.
Edu Sports are one of just two fourth-tier teams in the Nedbank Cup Last 32 this year (the other being Northern Cape side Mainstay United).
"Reneilwe Letsholonyane will miss the match due to family bereavement, while Tsepo Masilela will be rested for this match," confirms Baxter.
Tickets can be purchased at Computicket and Shoprite Checkers at R40 for adults and R10 for children under the age of 12.
