Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Nkosingiphile Ngcobo has urged the team to be more clinical with the possession they invariably have in games.

Ngcobo says Chiefs played well in their loss at home against Cape Town City over the weekend, but did not create enough goalscoring opportunities to threaten their opposition often enough. 

“We kept the ball well and we tried, but it’s not about possession. We need to get goals and also try to defend well as a team, so that we avoid conceding,” Ngcobo told www.kaizerchiefs.com.

Asked about the run of four straight losses for Amakhosi in the league, Ngcobo said “it’s not a case of anxiety”. 

“Its just a matter of us as players trying to get everything right, trying our best to win games. But we know in football sometimes things happen. But we need to be strong and forget what’s in the past and focus on what’s coming,” says Ngcobo.

The Chiefs midfielder expects a tough encounter for the team today at home in the DStv Premiership against Marumo Gallants – who over the weekend qualified for the final of the Nedbank Cup – a fixture ‘Mshini’ will unfortunately sit out due to injury. 

“They’re very energetic and they play good football. We just need to be calm and compete and make sure we win the game. We need to win it. We have four games left now. What’s important is to win every game. We know it’s not easy, we still have tough opponents to play. But we just have to put aside losing so many games and focus on our next games and make sure we play well and do our best,” says Ngcobo.

He had a word of thanks for the club’s supporters, who have stood by them through a difficult patch. 

“They have been so supportive. After the game they’re still there, singing, there’s a lot of positive energy coming from our supporters and we appreciate that. We just need to make sure as a team we show them that appreciation by winning games and playing good football, which we know they enjoy. What I can say is we are going to make sure we do our best in the last four games and grind out results and make sure we win,” says Ngcobo.

Of his own form, he believes there is more he can do to help the team, and to get into positions to score and assist his teammates.
