With only 17 points in bag, Maritzburg United are currently rooted at the bottom of the Absa Premiership table and have been a shadow of the side that reached a cup final and finished fourth in the league last season. They have, however, seen somewhat of a resurgence since Eric Tinkler’s appointment as the head coach at the end of January.
“It won’t be an easy game because they are fighting for their lives. They will be gunning for the win, but we will have to show them that we want it more,” continues Moleko, who has been a regular starter since coach Ernst Middendorp’s appointment.
Prior to the German mentor’s arrival, Moleko only featured twice in 22 matches across all competitions with his only start being the away win over Free State Stars in September 2018.
“It was tough, but coach Ernst came in and uplifted my performances,” commented the defender, who is unwavering in his quest to uphold the Kaizer Chiefs badge by refusing to concede on the chase for the league title.
“It will be difficult for us to catch the teams above us on the log, but anything can happen in the eight games still left to play. We’re still in it mathematically and – for now – our focus is on the Maritzburg United and SuperSport United matches before the FIFA break.”
The reverse fixture between Chiefs and Maritzburg United produced a goalless draw.
Amakhosi will be looking for a more positive result when the sides kick-off at 18:00 on Saturday, 9 March 2019.
