After arriving in Morocco and acclimatizing to the surroundings in Casablanca, Kaizer Chiefs interim co-coach Arthur Zwane says the Amakhosi are “well prepared” for their CAF Champions League semi-final against Wydad Athletic Club this weekend.
Zwane, a veteran of Chiefs’ 2001 African Cup Winners Cup triumph as a player, has a clear objective for what he wants from Saturday evening’s first leg against Wydad.
“We are prepared to take the game to them and be cautious at the same time to not concede any goals. We will be happy if we score one or two goals. The preparations have gone well, so far so good, we are well prepared,” says a confident Zwane.
He is well aware of Wydad’s recent run which has seen them go 12 games unbeaten in all competitions.
“Our opponents are a very competitive team. We are aware of that, they also have their strengths and weaknesses and we have tried to focus on their weaknesses and control their strengths. We know they are very good at playing the balls behind the defence, so we must make sure that when we get the ball we try to get to the final third as fast as possible,” says Zwane.
The Chiefs coach is confident his players will be able to deal with the magnitude of the occasion.
“It is all about mental strength. We have boys who have played in this competition before, the likes of Leonardo Castro and Lazalous Kambule. Samir Nurkovic too is one player who does not stop running and working hard. We also have the opportunity of deadball situations. We are aware of their strengths and the threat of their attackers. We will apply ourselves very well,” says Zwane.
Chiefs head to Morocco close to full strength, though Zwane acknowledges they will be missing some important players.
“It is unfortunate that we missing Lebogang Manyama for this game with a knee injury, with the hope that he will be fully recovered for the second leg at home. Players with long-term injuries like Khama Billiat and Dumsani Zuma are out, but everybody else is ready,” says Zwane.
In conclusion, “10111” has a message for the Chiefs faithful.
“We are aware that we are representing our country, our fans and our families, we will do our best to grind out a positive result and give our best”.
