“We have to play well and produce positive results. Playing for good results is the most important part of our plans when we prepare,” says Gavin Hunt shared his thoughts ahead of this evening’s DStv Premiership encounter between Kaizer Chiefs and Bloemfontein Celtic.
“We have been missing a lot of opportunities and we are working on fixing it. The goals we have scored are harder to score than the goals we have been missing. I’d rather score the easy ones. Obviously, the conceding of goals is worrisome, and it is something that we have been working on,” he added.
Chiefs lost 2-1 to SuperSport United in a midweek match they could have easily won if they’d scored the many chances they created.
“Dumsani Zuma showed he is a good player when came on as substitute on Wednesday,” says Hunt. “He unfortunately also missed a sitter but he gave us a bit of legs. Admittedly, he has been out for a long time. He has good pace and we are working to define his role more.”
Hunt watched Celtic when they beat Baroka FC in their midweek fixture. The Chiefs mentor confirmed to having watched Celtic’s recent game and shared his observations.
‘Celtic bring lots of pace to the game,” notes Hunt. “They are good side, and it is no fluke that they reached to back-to-back cup finals. They are a good ball playing side. We don’t want to turn the ball over. If we turn the ball over, you know there will be a lot of pace coming at you and counter attacks.”
Coach confirmed the unavailability of Samir Nurković, Kearyn Baccus, Reeve Frosler and Philani Zulu.
“We miss the four players,” he admits, “obviously these are big players and they affect our plans at the back and going forward. We will miss Zulu because he has been improving and giving balls to the striker but now, he is out, and we hope to have him back in CAF match next week. Nurković is working hard to be back and he is making good progress. Baccus is still struggling with a tight thigh muscle. At least you can see Reeve is starting to walk around the pitch unaided.”
Kick-off will be at 18:00 and no spectators are allowed at FNB Stadium. The match will be live on SuperSport Channel 202.
