The Glamour Boys arrived at their hotel in the Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality, which includes East London, on Friday afternoon. This was followed by a Gala dinner in the evening with several dignitaries, including the premier of the Eastern Cape, Phumulo Masualle.
There were also players of the Chilli Boys and Amakhosi present.
Chiefs’ Football Manager Bobby Motaung explained in a humorous speech how great it was to be back in East London. “We were here for the last time nearly 15 years ago when we played Bush Bucks,” he said.
There were also members of our supporters’ club executive, in the Eastern Cape, in attendance, including chairperson Siyasanga Langeni and secretary general Sivuyile Kupelo.
Amakhosi’s Ramahlwe Mphahlele was one of the players present at the Gala dinner. “Chippa are one of the most difficult teams to play,” the right-back mentioned. “They keep possession very well. However, as Chiefs we always play to win and that’s what we intent to do against Chippa.”
The Glamour Boys already won the Maize Cup and the Carling Black Label Champion Cup during pre-season. The Premier’s Cup will be an opportunity to book a treble.
“It’s another cup,” adds Mphahlele, “winning becomes a habit of winning and that’s why we definitely want to get the Premier’s Cup. This will also be a big moral boast going into next week’s MTN8 quarterfinal against SuperSport United.”
Chippa host Chiefs at Mdantsane’s Sisa Dukashe Stadum on Saturday afternoon, 5 August 2017. Kick-off is at 15:00. The match is sold out.
