“We didn’t want to leave anything to chance hence we fielded some fresh legs for this match,” said the Kaizer Chiefs coach, while referring to the changes to the starting XI and the defence compared to their last game.
The back row had goalie Virgil Vries with a clean sheet, supported by Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya, Erick Mathoho, Teenage Hadebe and Daniel Cardoso.
“We did well to dominate them,” continued Solinas. “Mainly, I’m impressed by the reaction from the lads after the Derby loss. They really showed hunger and commitment to bounce back. The victory is a good boost for the team’s morale.”
Khama Billiat scored his first ever hat-trick at international level with Kabelo Mahlasela netting his first goal in the Gold and Black colours and it was a beauty.
“I’m happy for the two lads,” Solinas concluded. “Strikers must get this kind of game to return to scoring form and for Kabelo to open his account.”
“It is good that we didn’t concede, because a goal could swing the game and give them some motivation. Now, we will prepare to go to Zanzibar next Tuesday to consolidate this victory.”
Chiefs will travel to Zanzibar for the second leg, which will take place next Tuesday, 4 December 2018.
