A brace from in-form Njabulo Hlongwane helped Kaizer Chiefs to an emphatic 4-0 win over Chippa United on Saturday, which enabled them to leapfrog Orlando Pirates into third place in the 2023/24 DStv Diski Challenge standings.
Ntandoyenkosi Nkosi and Mfundo Vilakazi also found the net on a day when Vela Khumalo’s side were irresistible in dismantling Chippa in their own back yard.
“It is encouraging to see that we have improved the conversion rate of the opportunities we create,” says the coach, explaining further, “We have been making chances all season and not putting enough of them away, but recently the sharpness has been there and the results speak for themselves. I am very happy with how the boys have applied themselves. The progress is evident.”
With six rounds of the season remaining, Chiefs have 47 points, four fewer than second-placed Stellenbosch and only six behind leaders, Mamelodi Sundowns. However, Amakhosi will face both before the season ends and will therefore fancy their chances of overhauling them and pipping them to the title.
Their next opponents are Cape Town Spurs, who will journey to the highveld to face the rampant Glamour Boys on Sunday, 7 April, kicking off at 10:00.
