With just over a few days before the new Absa Premiership season commences, Kaizer Chiefs announced the promotion of four players from the development ranks to the first team for the 2017/18 campaign.
Bruce Bvuma, Khotso Malope, Wiseman Meyiwa and Nkosingiphile Ngcobo have officially been promoted to the senior team. Bvuma, Ngcobo and Meyiwa played a number of matches in the MDC league for Chiefs last season, while Malope was on loan to Thanda Royal Zulu and contributed immensely to their promotion to the Absa Premiership.
Football Manager Bobby Motaung congratulated the quartet and welcomed them to the elite league. “We have been assessing the players and they have been training with the senior team for a while because we wanted to test their mettle and see if they were ready for the big time.
“The young men will add youthful vitality and inject new energy and quality to the wealth of talent already in the squad, because we need ensure that the team is strong enough to challenge for the league title as well as the three trophies on offer in the domestic league,” he added.
The decision was taken in consultation with the youth and development coaches who believe each of the players did well enough to earn their respective promotions.
Bruce Bvuma (22) is no stranger to the senior team after playing two matches, as a result of injuries to the two senior team goalkeepers in April. He officially joins a goalkeeping department that boosts talented shot stoppers such as Itumeleng Khune, Brilliant Khuzwayo, Brylon Petersen and Luthando Sixhaso.
He has already played for the South African national team.
The 17-year-old Wiseman Meyiwa represented the Under-17 and Under-20 national teams at various international tournaments. In the last eight months, he represented Amajita in the Cosafa, Afcon and World Cup tournaments. He made a huge impression and received raving reviews from the Italian national team coach at the Under-20 World Cup, as well as many offers from other clubs. The midfielder says he’s looking forward to learning and doing his best when given a chance.
Meyiwa made his Bafana Bafana debut against Zambia in the Chan qualifier last weekend.
His homeboy from Pietermaritzburg and counterpart at both Kaizer Chiefs MDC team and national Under-17 and Under-20 teams, midfielder Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, who is 17-years-old, will don jersey number 37. He also has leadership qualities as he captained the MDC team last season at his tender age.
The 23-year-old Khotso Malope was loaned out to first division side Thanda Royal Zulu and played an important role in their promotion to the premiership. He was a key player in the 2015/16 season in the Kaizer Chiefs MDC team before being loaned out for game time.
“We are excited to welcome all the youngsters to the senior team. They possess the qualities that we require at the top level for Kaizer Chiefs. Their experience at junior international level will be of great benefit to us,” said coach Steve Komphela.
“We’ve looked carefully at all four players and we are satisfied with the quality they will add to the team this coming season.”
