Amakhosi midfielder Dumsani Zuma is relishing the challenge of facing AmaZulu, who will be Chiefs’ next opponents in the DStv Premiership on Wednesday afternoon. The encounter will take place at Durban’s Jonsson Kings Park Stadium. Due to the current Coronavirus restrictions, the game will be played without any fans and will kick off at 15:00. It will be live on DStv channel 202.
Zuma came on as a second half substitute in Chiefs’ last game against Maritzburg United. He says they are targeting the game against AmaZulu to try and end their recent winless run in league games. The midfielder is eager to get onto the field because he knows the importance of returning with three points from Durban.
“Everyone knows the situation we are in and it is very important for us to get that win,” Zuma exclaims. “Everyone is very focused. We’ve put ourselves in this situation and we need to fight and get ourselves up on the league table. Winning is vital and so is collecting the points available to us.”
While collecting the points foremost on Zuma’s mind, he is under no illusion that it will be a challenging assignment. “From my experience, they are always a difficult opponent to play,” he adds. “Again, they have players and a new coach, sod we don’t really know much about them. It is going to be a difficult one, but we know if we stick to our philosophy, we will do well”.
Chiefs last trip to face AmaZulu last season back on the 24 September 2020 saw Chiefs win the game 2-0. With the scores at 0-0, Zuma came in as a 74th minute substitute and Chiefs managed to go on to win the game after scoring two goals in the latter stages of the game through Leonardo Castro in the 86th minute and Khama Billiat in second half stoppage time.
Once more he is expecting Usuthu to test Chiefs, but he believes Amakhosi have the mettle to battle their way to a win. “We know very well it is hard to play against AmaZulu on their own turf. But we have to believe in ourselves and as we saw last season we scored late when we played them away from home. So, they test you, but you have to stick to your game plan and if you persevere, you can get a positive result.”
On a personal note, Zuma who did not feature in Chiefs first 11 games in all competitions this season due to fitness and injury reasons, has played some role in their last five games appearing as a substitute in these matches.
While it has been cameo roles, Zuma is pleased that he is getting minutes out on the field. “I had been Struggling with match fitness, he concludes, “these minutes that I have been getting are going to boost my confidence and my stamina,” he concludes.
Zuma and co will be hoping that they can win the game and get the same kind of boost they did last season when an away league win over Amazulu in the corresponding fixture set Chiefs on their way towards winning eight league games in a row.
