Faiz Abrahams showed glimpses of the exceptional talent that convinced the Chiefs hierarchy to acquire him from Stellenbosch, in a 24-minute cameo off the bench for his first bow in Gold & Black against Richards Bay in Umlazi on Wednesday night.

The 21-year-old arrived earlier this month on loan for the season, with an option to make the move permanent and made a promising start to his Chiefs career.

“It was my first time travelling with Kaizer Chiefs,” he tells www.kaizerchiefs.com. “It felt good to be included and I appreciate the coach’s belief in me. I have worked hard since I arrived and I am grateful for the support I have received and honoured to be playing for this great Club.”

Naturally left-footed, Abrahams was introduced midway through the second half as an inverted right winger with a remit from coach Fernando Da Cruz to expunge the 2-1 deficit Chiefs faced at the time. “The coach told me to go out there and create chances for us to get back into the game,” he reveals. “I think I made a few opportunities that we might have scored from, so I am quite happy with how I did.

Amakhosi managed to draw level through a late Siphesihle Ndlovu strike to earn a 2-2 draw, although Abrahams feels the team’s performance warranted more than just one point.

“We played well enough to win the game but we had a couple of misfortunes which we will definitely work on cutting out going forward,” he says, adding, “The conditions made things a bit difficult,” he continues, “It was windy as well which made controlling the slippery ball difficult but overall, I think the guys coped well in the circumstances.”

Amakhosi will be in Betway Premiership action again on 5 September, against Siwelele, and Abrahams intends spending the time sharpening his skills in anticipation of further involvement in Chiefs’ quest for glory this season.

“I’m just going to keep working as hard as I can in order to maintain a high standard week in, week out. Consistency is the most important thing. You have to be at your best every time you set foot on the field,” he concludes.
