Cape Town feels like home – Ntshangase

“Playing in Cape Town feels like playing at home,” comments Siphelele Ntshangase ahead of Saturday’s Absa Premiership fixture against Cape Town City. “Our supporters always come out in numbers to support us in the Mother City. We are looking forward to the game.”

Kaizer Chiefs have had a difficult start to the season and are now in 13th spot on the log table with four points from five matches. The Capetonians have one point more from one game less played and are in seventh position.

Thanks to the FIFA international break the squad had nearly two weeks to work hard at training on, for example, build-ups, tactics and set-pieces. “We worked a lot on our shape,” explains Ntshangase, “where to be on the pitch at what time in relation to be ball and your opponent.”

A few players were on international duty, including Itumeleng Khune, Ramahlwe Mphahlele, Khama Billiat, Teenage Hadebe, Virgil Vries and Godfrey Walusimbi. Billiat scored for Zimbabwe in a 1-1 draw against Congo in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Brazzaville on Sunday afternoon.

“They will have gained a lot of experience from playing for their respective national teams,” Ntshangase points out. “And that will help us in our game on Saturday.”

Erick Mathoho is out injured, but Andriamirado ‘Dax’ Aro Hasina Andrianarimanana and Lebogang Manyama will be available for selection for the first time since joining Amakhosi.

“Dax and Lebo are very good players and their availability will have a positive impact on the team,” reacts Ntshangase.

The 25-year-old midfielder has been in fine form this season, although he himself still sees a lot of room for improvement. “I didn’t get many opportunities to play last season,” Ntshangase says. “I am happy to get game-time this season, although I am not as yet entirely happy with my performances so far. I need to get better and I am working hard at training to do that.”

About the match against Cape Town City, the midfielder comments: “As Kaizer Chiefs we always go for the three points and will do the same on Saturday.”

Chiefs will face City at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday, 15 September (kick-off is at 15:00).
