“The first game is key,” says Ernst Middendorp. “We are starting with a clear mindset and that is to compete for the league honours. We have gone over the challenges of the past. Our preparations have gone very well. This match will serve to see the implementation of the pre-season preparations.”

Kaizer Chiefs are visiting Highlands Park in their 2019/20 season’s opener. Speaking after taking his charges through their prematch session, an upbeat and optimistic Middendorp says: “There is not much that you can do in terms of surveillances on the opponents. Highlands have added some new faces in their team. Rodney Ramagalela is one of their new players and he will be one of their important players.

“The match will be tough for both teams, but I think we have all what it takes to win the match. The German also updated on Itumeleng Khune’s progress: “He is getting closer and closer - we are working on getting him ready before the end of the current month,” confirms Middendorp.

Amakhosi’s duo of Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya and newly signed Yagan Sasman will not play a part in this match due to bookings the picked up last season.

“The new players are adapting and gelling well with the rest of team,” says Middendorp in conclusion “We have a strong squad to select a wining combination. The mood is high in the camp and I think the lads know their responsibilities. As individuals the players have reached a stage where they have a point to prove. That is good for the team.”

The much-anticipated Absa Premiership match is scheduled for 15:00 at Makhulong Stadium in Tembisa.
