“We started slow and conceded a goal in the first half,” Komphela reacted after his side came from behind for the second time in a row to beat Baroka FC 2-1 on Sunday. “However, I am happy with the way we recovered. We showed our character and I am delighted with this victory.

“Credit to the lads, they showed professionalism. It is a great experience and confidence builder to win with 10 men.”

Leonardo Castro got to a sterling start on his debut with a fine curling scorcher to help Amakhosi get the three points.

“Castro had an excellent debut,” Komphela acknowledged. “It is good to see new players scoring. It will build his confidence.

“We've been struggling to convert our build-ups into goals and I am glad we scored four in our last two games.”

The red-card for Joseph Molangoane, however, was a set-back. “I spoke to Joseph about it,” admitted the Chiefs coach.

Amakhosi are now third on the Absa Premiership log, five points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

“It is game on now,” commented Komphela ahead of Saturday’s league encounter against the Brazilians at FNB Stadium (kick-off is at 20:15). “It is still a long way to go, but it's important to remain close to the leading pack. It is showtime and it promises to be an interesting race to the finish.”
