“We want to increase the number of wins,” said coach Steve Komphela ahead of Kaizer Chiefs’ visit to Bidvest Wits tonight.

“We are on a good run, but we must make sure we collect maximum points.”

The encounter between the sides ended 1-1 in the first round. Siphiwe Tshabalala gave Amakhosi the lead in the 53rd minute after which Amr Gamal equalised in injury time.

“Football results are funny,” Komphela commented on the league champions’ lackluster early season form. “Wits didn’t suddenly become a bad side barely a few months after having won the league title. They are still a force to be reckoned with.”

The Clever Boys started the season flirting with the drop zone, but have since somewhat recovered and have moved out of the danger area.

“We still have lots of respect for them,” the Chiefs coach pointed out. “They’ve changed a bit and have refreshed their squad with new additions. They didn't bring any strangers to our local game, looking at their signings, Lehlohonolo Majoro and Edwin Gyimah.”

Teenage Hadebe is serving a one match ban and Joseph ‘Tight’ Molangoane will also miss out due to suspension. Bernard Parker, meanwhile, is not available for selection due to an ankle injury.

Amakhosi are involved in a battle for honours at the top half of the log, while Bidvest Wits are fighting to move away from the bottom half. Nine points separate the two teams after 19 games played.

“We are satisfied with our progress,” Komphela commented. “Because even when a set-back occurred early in the game, we managed to carry on, compete and come back.

“Tight and Teenage will be out, but we still have ready-made replacements to take up the challenge.”

Amakhosi are on a six game unbeaten run with four wins and two draws. “We want to continue this momentum,” said Komphela, before making a concluding remark about Saturday night’s Bidvest Wits fixture. “It's another big one to look forward to.”

The match between Chiefs and Wits will take place at Bidvest Stadium. Kick-off is at 18:00.
