Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Cole Alexander has made a rousing rallying call to his teammates to unite and back each other in order to turn around a poor run of results and get back to winning ways when they face Cape Town City at FNB this weekend.

“As players, we need to stick together and try not to listen to all the outside noise. As a team, we all have the same goal and none of us are as strong as all of us together. We need to be together, that’s the main thing here, unity. That’s what we need to get the results. We will keep fighting,” a defiant Alexander told www.kaizerchiefs.com ahead of Saturday’s clash against the Citizens.

After three successive losses, the only solution Alexander believes is to get stuck in and do the hard yards on the training ground and on the pitch on match day.

“We have got to go back to work, focus on the game at hand, do the video analysis of our opponents and fully focus on the next match. We must take the positives from the previous match and we must also learn from the things that didn’t go too well and fix them on the practice ground,” says Alexander.

It’s been a turbulent fortnight, with the departure of coach Stuart Baxter and a bad run of results, but Alexander says  “this is football, these things happen”.

Asked whether the return of supporters had an impact on the poor run of results, Alexander refutes this and says, “if anything supporters affect us in a positive way”.

“Since the fans have been here, the results have not been going our way, but even when we’ve been behind, they’ve backed us, clapping and cheering for us, that’s a big positive, that’s a big highlight. We need to take that as motivation to give them something and use that to our advantage. Playing against Chiefs was always intimidating because of their fans, now they’re on my side and I’m looking to use it as a very big advantage. It gives you that extra energy,” says Alexander.

The Chiefs midfielder has a heartfelt message for the Amakhosi faithful.

“To the fans, thank you for the support these past few games in tough times. All I can promise you is my best, our best. The best is all you can give and if you give your best you don’t have any regrets. That’s my promise always,” says Alexander.

Kick-off for the match is at 15:00 at FNB Stadium.

Tickets for the game are available online through www.ticketmaster.co.za or at Computicket outlets at Shoprite and Checkers at R70 per ticket.
