Kaizer Chiefs U14s brought pride and honour to the Club by winning the SAFA Gauteng Development League (GDL) Top 8 trophy when they soundly defeated SuperSport United 4-1 in the final at the Tsakane stadium on Sunday.
Unfortunately, the U15s were unable to replicate the feat, as they went down 5-4 on penalties after drawing their final 1-1 against Mamelodi Sundowns later in the day.
The teams won through to their respective finals on Saturday, with the U14s beating Sevens Academy 4-1 and the U15s overcoming Tuks by 2-0.
The U19s just missed out on reaching their final but were unfortunately edged out 5-4 in a penalty shootout by School of Excellence, following a 1-1 draw.
This coming Friday, 21 March (Human Rights Day), the development teams are in GDL action against Randburg FC at the Randburg Sports Club. Then, on Sunday, 23 March, they play host to East Rand Athletic Club at the Village.
Both programmes get under way at 09:00 and will be livestreamed on the SuperSport Schools app and website.
Meanwhile, in the DStv Diski Challenge (DDC), Amakhosi reserves retained their place at the top of the national U23 league standings with an accomplished 2-0 win over Polokwane City at Dobsonville Stadium on Saturday.
Goals by Aiden McCarthy and Naledi Hlongwane were just reward for an efficient performance that demonstrated the growing maturity within the team’s ranks.
They move up to 48 points from 20 matches, one clear of second and with a game in hand, and will go into next Sunday’s Derby encounter against Orlando Pirates with an assured sense of confidence. The match at the Dr. Molemela Stadium in Bloemfontein kicks off at 15:00, and forms part of the DDC Festival and will be broadcast live to television.
