Kaizer Chiefs Reserves will take part in the newly launched Reserve League Tournament starting on 7 April. The tournament is called Multichoice Diski Shield.

“It is a good initiative,” said coach Arthur Zwane. “It is ‘do or die’ for the teams. You play for winning in this kind of tournament. This will be a good test for the boys. Unlike in the Multichoice Diski Challenge where we focused on performance and development, we will be focusing on performance and results.”

The tournament consists of 16 PSL clubs and will be split into 4 regions, Coastal West, North, Coastal East & Central Region. The winners of each region will advance to the semi-finals.

Chiefs Reserves will be in the Central Region:

  • Platinum Stars

  • KAIZER CHIEFS

  • Orlando Pirates

  • Bidvest Wits

“It is going to be a different ball game altogether,” concluded Zwane. “We look forward to the challenge against our opponents. We have played well against them in the MDC league. But, this is going to be a different ball game as only players who are under 23 years old can participate. It will not be easy but we have all what takes to win the Shield. We are going to use this tournament to teach winning mentality as enshrined in the Chiefs value system.”

The winners’ prize money will go towards football development in their community. The fixtures and all logistics will be announced in due course.
