The MultiChoice Diski Challenge (MDC) will kick off this weekend, with Kaizer Chiefs facing Golden Arrows at Clermont’s Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium on Sunday, 10 September 2017 (kick-off at 12:00).

Some of our MDC players posed today for a photoshoot, both for broadcaster SuperSport and our own media platforms. “This is a new experience,” comments the 17-year-old Sibongiseni Hlengwa. “It feels great.”

The striker has already played for Chiefs’ youth squad at the Future Champions, the Engen Tournament and last season’s SAB League.

Hlengwa joined Amakhosi’s youth development structures in 2014. He originates from Edenvale, Pietermaritzburg, where Wiseman Meyiwa also comes from. Meyiwa recently signed a professional contract with the first team.

“We will fight to win the league,” he adds about the upcoming MDC season. “We are ready for the challenge and will conquer together as a team.”

“This is exciting,” remarks the tall Kal Alpha Laing, while posing for the camera. “It makes you feel important, like you are a star.”

The talented defender grew up in Eshowe in KwaZulu-Natal, where former Kaizer Chiefs defender Derrick Spencer was born. Spencer played a minor role in getting Laing to our youth development structures. He joined Amakhosi from Eshowe Juventus in July.

His role model used to be the Italian defender, Paolo Maldini. “He was just the perfect centre-back,” Laing explains his choice.

Tebogo Galane is another talented striker, who excelled last season in the SAB League, scoring 16 goals in 14 matches.

The 22-year-old was born in Hammanskraal, outside Pretoria. “This feels very special,” Galane notes about the shoot, “it’s something I have never done before.”

About the upcoming MDC season, the striker comments: “We will fight for the top position and, on a personal note, I want to score as many goals as I can.”

The game between Golden Arrows and Kaizer Chiefs will be televised live at SuperSport 4 (channel 204).
