Kaizer Chiefs handed out prizes in excess of R100 000 to learners from Gauteng and the message was loud and clear as the Amakhosi players warned the students on the dangers of drugs and alcohol abuse.

"Drugs and alcohol abuse kills," said star midfielder Jabu Pule. "We can win the battle against drugs and alcohol because we were not born drinking alcohol or smoking zoll (dagga). The future belongs to us and let us take care. I love you all."

Assistant coach Doctor Khumalo endorsed Pule's sentiments as he also advised learners to stay away from chemicals substance abuse, casual sex and being promiscuous. "Do not abuse women, drugs and alcohol. Behave yourselves," said Khumalo.

More than 20 prizes were handed out but it was Westridge who swept the boards with four awards - Best HIV/AIDS awareness article with compliments of Y-FM and Sony Music, Best advert sponsored by Acer, Best Kaizer Chiefs logo by Kaizer Chiefs and third place in Best magazine prizes courtesy of Vodacom.

The overall Best magazine with R20 000 prize money from Standard Bank and two Acer computers went to Kliptown and second place with R15 000 cash prize to Thutolore.

The Kaizer Chiefs slogan went to Ubuhle Bemfundo with the catchy slogan "Amakhosi, the best never fail" to win themselves R2000 and an autographed Kaizer Chiefs jersey. the Best sponsor slogan for the innovative catch fraise "Money doesn’t grow on tress but it does blossom at our branches" for Standard Bank.

Defender Patrick Mabedi, in the absence of captain Brian Baloyi, read a pledge in support of the campaign against women abuse, and then all players signed followed by all the VIPs and celebrities.

The prize giving ceremony should have taken place a while back in conjunction with one of our home games but due to the ever-changing PSL fixtures the organisers were forced to make other plans.

It was pure fun day for most of the learners as they came face to face with their heroes. Others seized the moment to get autographs and quick photo opportunities.

Crowd favourite Jabu Pule was swamped by a group of admirers all scrapping for autographs or simple to touch the player, who ultimately had to be escorted by security to a waiting Intercape bus, not that the dribbling sensation was in danger but the other players would have waited all afternoon with Jabu happy to share a moment or two with his followers.
