Pule goes AWOL again

Kaizer Chefs midfielder Jabu Pule has once again missed training after disappearing without trace for a week and club officials have vowed to take stringent action against the wayward star.

Pule did not train for a week and will certainly miss the Premiership match against Manning Rangers on Saturday.

Indications are that he might not feature in any of the club's other remaining matches against Moroka Swallows on May 18 and Bush Bucks on May 25.

Club managing director Kaizer Motaung was at a loss of words on Saturday as he broke the news about Pule's latest disappearing act.

"We are highly disappointed," said Motaung. "We have done all we could possibly do to help the player get his life together and resurrect his career but all our efforts were in vain."

"Surely by now the supporters also realise that Jabu has not treated them with the kind of respect they deserve despite their support throughout his trying times. All I can say now is that we will wait for the player to return, but the club will be forced to take even harsher penalty this time."

Pule made headlines in September last year when he admitted to having a problem with chemical substance abuse.

He then voluntarily checked into a rehabilitation centre with the support of the club. But the six weeks he spent at the rehab centre did very little to help as he fell off the rails when he missed training in December and was subsequently suspended for three months.

"I thank all those around me especially the Kaizer Chiefs family, for their love and support," said Pule when he came out of rehab on November 4 last year.

"The six weeks at the rehab centre provided me with an opportunity to discover a lot about myself as an individual, and the fact that in life you live just once, with no opportunity to make mends the second time around because there is no second time around."

The former national under-23 star has since been surrounded by controversy and appeared in court on charges of alleged abduction of a minor.

Undoubtedly one of the finest midfielders to grace the South African football scene, but Pule has always had difficulties in handling his life off the field and this could well lead to his downfall.

With the season almost over, Amakhosi are set to make drastic changes in the playing personnel as they prepare for next season.

Pule's latest disappearing act could well cost him a place in the Glamour Boys team, and what a said day it would be for South African football to see such amazing talent go to waste.
